Description of type of 10G EPON optical module
EPON is an Ethernet based passive optical network, which is an important part of optical access technology. PON network consists of THREE parts: OLT (optical line terminal), ODN (passive spectrometer network) and ONU (optical network terminal).
OLT devices are located at the core of the network topology, accessing multiple service networks upward and accessing multiple users' services downward through ODN. They are important nodes for business aggregation and distribution.
OLT also realizes the control, management, ranging and other network management functions of the client device ONU.
OLT devices are the core of PON network in terms of both its network location and its network functions.
The PON module is a high-performance optical module for the PON system, conforming to the ITU-T G.984.2 standard and multi-source protocol (MSA), which uses different wavelengths to send and receive signals between OLT (optical line terminals) and ONT (optical network terminals).
In order to achieve compatibility with 1G EPON, 10G EPON does not use the downlink wavelength of 1490nm used by 1G EPON system. Meanwhile, it considers to avoid the analog video wavelength (1550nm) and OTDR test wavelength (1600~1650nm). The IEEE 802.3AV standard chooses 1577nm as the downlink wavelength of 10Gbit/s (wavelength range 1574-1580nm).
Therefore, in the downward direction, 10Gbit/s signal and 1Gbit/s signal are WDM mode.
In the upstream direction, the wavelength of 1Gbit/s signal is 1310nm (1260~1360nm), and the IEEE 802.3 AV standard provides that the uplast wavelength of 10Gbit/s signal is 1270nm (1260~1280nm). There is overlap between the two, so WDM mode cannot be adopted, and only double-rate TDMA mode can be adopted.
At 10G EPON OLT, it can be found that 10G/10G ONU, 10G/1G ONU and 1G/1G ONU can coexist simultaneously.
At present, the 10G EPON optical module in the market can be divided into OLT (optical circuit terminal) optical module and ONU (optical network unit) optical module according to the different insertion devices.And 10G EPON has XFP, SFP+ two types of encapsulation.

1. 10G EPON XFP OLT optical module (asymmetric type/symmetric type)
The optical module adopts a removable XFP package with a SC optical port, with a downlink rate of 10.3125Gbps and an uplink rate of 1.25Gbps&10.3125Gbps. The working wavelength is Tx1577nm/Rx1270nm (symmetric type) and Tx1270nm/1310nm (asymmetric type), which are optional.
2. 10G EPON SFP+ OLT optical module (asymmetric type)
The optical module adopts pluggable SFP+ package with SC optical port, with downlink rate of 10.3125 gbPs-1.25GBps and uplink rate of 1.25GBPs-10GBps. The working wavelength is Tx1577nm/Rx1270nm and Tx1490nm/1310nm, and its maximum transmission distance is 20km.
3. 10G EPON SFP+ ONU light module (asymmetric type)
The light module adopts pluggable SFP+ package with SC light port, and the downlink rate is 10.3125Gbps& 1.25GBps, and the uplink rate is 1.25GBps &10Gbps.
The operating wavelength is Tx1490/Rx1577, and the transmission distance is up to 20km.
